A Rutabaga

Today Edith and I celebrate our 25th week!

According to Baby Center.com she is 13 1/2 inches long and weighs in at about one and half pounds! The vegetable of comparison for the week - A Rutabaga!

The Bump.com compares her to an Eggplant. Eggplant I get... but what the heck is a Rutabaga?

Either way - she's definitely growing!

Friday we had our 6 month check up and all seems to be well! She had a nice strong heart beat at 150 bpm and I've finally gained some weight... 4 lbs total over the course of the pregnancy so far!

We had a glucose tolerance test on Friday too... with the family history, its kind of a toss up to see how that one will come back. I didn't hear from the doctor or the nurse yesterday, so maybe that's a good thing. Lets keep our fingers crossed for no gestational diabetes!!

on a sadder note - my absentmindedness strikes again. I forgot to check pockets while doing the laundry this weekend... As I laid out the jeans, I kept finding bits of paper. I thought it was just a receipt or something but upon closer inspection discovered that it was our Blink 182 concert tickets :( Total Bummer! Rob and I keep all of our stubs... and that was certainly the plan for Edie's first show. sigh...

Girl at the Rock Show!

Last night Rob and I had the pleasure of taking Edie (and ourselves) to her first Rock Concert!

It was only fitting that for her first show she got to hear one of her Daddy's all time favorite bands: BLINK 182!!!

IT WAS AWESOME!!!

Fall Out Boy opened for them and played a lot of our favorites not to mention the AWESOMEST cover of Journey's Don't Stop Believin'! A-mazing!

Blink - of course - put on a fantastic show! It was so fun to see Rob's face light up when they started playing! I think he really enjoyed it! And of course all of their usual gross boy jokes still make him laugh. Timeless- he calls them. :)

Now the encore - in typical encore style - was quite amazing!

- side story here... the last time Rob and I saw a show together at the Pavilion was back in high school, or just after, and it was also a Blink show! - At that show, Travis (the drummer) had this awesome drum solo Tommy Lee style with the elevated flipping platform.

This time - the elevated platform swug from side to side, tilted forward and rotated in a circle... the pic of this didnt turn out so well... but he's the white circle infront of the other white circles...

All in All it was a fantastic show and we really had a great time! We had some good friends there, the rain held off, the weather was delightful and as old and out of practice as we are - we were able to make it through the entire show! Edie wiggled through a lot of it - so hopefully that means she liked it too :)

Note to ourselves - as cool as we think converse are - they suck for old people having to stand for three hours at a concert and then hiking back to the car... man, are we really that old?!

Happy Birthday Sam!

Happy Birthday Samuel Emmett!

A special shout out to my little cousin for his special day!

Sam is an awesome kid! Now moonlighting as a Sophomore at UT Austin and a Rugby player. He's got a wicked sense of humor and he's a Dillon... what more can you ask for? Yes ladies, He's single ;)

We also celebrate young Samwise because he is the only other red headed relative I have... unfortunately, he doesn't give Edie any extra hope for being blessed with the Ginger Gene... but we can still hope!

If she does get the gene - you can bet we will be spending labor day 2010 in the motherland for Roodharingendag! Who wouldn't want to hang out with a bunch of freaky ginger dutchies? :)

The Reason is Her!

Her name is Edith James.

We are expecting her January 12, 2010. Our little Capricorn.

As of Tuesday - I am in my 24th week/6th month!

According to Baby Center.com she's over a foot long (from head to toe). They like to compare babies to fruit and vegetables. This week she is an Ear of Corn. Though an ear of corn that weighs over a pound!

This week was a mile stone in her tracking - I was keeping a post it tab on my ruler on my desk at work - but alas - she had outgrown the ruler! Maybe I can bring in a yard stick ;)

I've had a pretty easy pregnancy so far - very little morning sickness, a few bouts with heart burn, the occasional irrational sob-fest over a bagel and cream cheese or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and heightened Road Rage.

I hear a lot that I don't look that pregnant - not to sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Good for me and our budget because all of my work clothes still fit and I'm still in my same jeans with the aid of a belly band. Maybe I'll get more pregnant looking soon... sorry to disappoint with my not-so-protruding belly!

Since I first starting being able to feel her move - she has been quite the wiggler! Rob has been able to feel the movements a few times and we did get quite a show last Tuesday when we could actually see the pokes in my belly! Super fun!

We spend a lot of our time these days talking about 'will we do this', 'will we let her do that', 'how are we going to handle this'... and I know for sure that every idea we have now will likely change dramatically when we actually get there...

The first decision we've made that we hope to stick to - We wont be piercing her ears as a baby. I know - shocking to some - but Rob would like for her to be able to make her own decision on that and I agree. It will be interesting to see at what age she starts noticing and develops an interest of her own!

As I remember other fun stuff - I'll try to remember to share them here!

To Blog or Not to Blog...

I've read a ton of friends blogs and posts and it seems they always have something interesting to say. I never thought my life was exciting enough to be worthy of public viewing... then the surprise came along!

Being 4 months away from bringing our first child into this crazy world has totally opened my eyes, mind and imagination... not to mention my willingness to share.

I see so many cute posts of cute babies, pregnant bellies and fun family outings. Knowing our families and their personalities, there's bound to be plenty to write about and share.

It is so easy for us to get wrapped up in our own world and I very rarely take the time to share the fun things with my friends and family. Rob is much better at this - he likes to talk. I hate phones... so maybe this will be a good way for me to share whats going on!

I woke up this morning thinking about the day and if there was any thing blog-worthy going on... lo and behold - there is! But I wont be able to share about it till tomorrow!

So - In the mean time - Welcome to Skolaski Style and I hope we don't scare you away :)
